Carol Fourie
Head of Department: Pre-Primary (Inky)
Blue Group - Grade R
Carol matriculated at Vryheid High School a long time ago! She excelled at sport, and in particular, in swimming where she attained her Natal colours. Carol qualified with a Higher Diploma in Pre-Primary Education from the Natal College of Education and began teaching in 1984. She has since taught in various schools in Pietermaritzburg (as well as her own successful playschool), and was Principal at Epworth Pre-Primary for a period of time. Carol is also trained as a Psychomotor Educator. Carol Fourie is the HOD of the Pre-Primary and Class teacher. She is joined by 3 other Pre-primary teachers namely, Hayley Tweedale, Heather Porter and Kerry Dent. The new Pre-Primary building which opened in January 2009 is designed with busy little boys in mind. The indoor areas are spacious and the creative room allows the opportunity for boys to experiment with different creative techniques, while using their imagination, vibrant colours and sensopathic experiences.

Hayley Tweedale
Yellow Group - Grade RR
Hayley Tweedale grew up in the Natal Midlands. She was educated at GHS. Hayley did her teaching diploma at Teachers College in Pietermaritzburg and Edgewood. She has successfully completed 2 Comrades Marathons, bungy jumped in Australia and done an open water dive course. She is a mother of 2 - Ross (Cordwalles pupil) and Kelly who is at The Wykeham Collegiate.

Heather Porter
Red Group - Grade RR
Heather is married to Chris and has two children. Kirsten who has recently matriculated from The Wykeham Collegiate, and Gary at Michaelhouse. She attended Wykeham School, then graduated from Edgewood College at the end of 1988 with a HDE specializing in Junior Primary and Pre Primary Education. Heather's first teaching post was at a pre primary in Oribi Village called Kalinka, which was a real eye opener as a first year teacher. For the last 19 years she has taught at schools in and around Pietermaritzburg."Teaching is my life. I just love my job and every day is a new challenge, exciting and different".

Kerry Dent
Green Group - Grade R
Kerry Dent trained as a specialist in Pre-Primary education at Natal Teachers Training College and graduated as Miss Mitchell. She excelled in practical teaching and has never lost the love for the little ones. She comes to us with a wealth of knowledge having taught at many pre-primary schools. Kerry was employed to teach at Cordwalles due to a growth in the Pre-primary, a growth that triggered a change from a formal Grade 0 class to an Open-Plan Pre-Primary. She has been privileged to witness the continued growth of the Pre-primary, now finally established in the new Andrew Rattray Pre-Primary. Kerry has four children with her husband Mark; two of whom are married. Lloyd is a Farm Manager, Roslyn an Industrial Psychologist, Kate is a student studying Law and Lynton an old boy of Cordwalles. is studying engineering at UKZN. Kerry is from a well known Pietermaritzburg family, the daughter of Springbok hockey player Claude Mitchell and floral artist and gardening correspondent Jean Mitchell. One of Kerry’s greatest joys are her grandchildren. |
