Balson, Scott (1964 - 1967)
I was at Cordwalles from 1964 to 1967 when Mr R C Brooks was headmaster. The highlight of my life at Cordwalles was when one of my mates dropped a stink bomb in the main quad when R C was holding an assembly. The pungent stench scattered the entire school and R C never knew who was the perpetrator despite the most vile threats and impassioned demands that we dob in the perpetrator. There were the gardens where we used to grow flowers and watch the snails tear apart our fragile floral display... almost like star wars! There was the swimming pool where I, as the most amateur swimmers could get a soft white candy fish for simply swimming across the pool on school gala days. The thickly wooded area behind the camp kitchens was one of my few highlights as a boarder back in the 1960s. It was here that I came across a tree absolutely covered in bright yellow butterflies. Tens of thousands of them... spreading their wings for the first time. A most beautiful sight that I have never forgotten. And the lovely school chapel with its quaint upstairs gallery overlooking the Choir and the stained glass windows which, when Christmas Carols were sung, left me with memories burnt into my soul. In my final year I, like all other final years, got to choose the final hymn sung one evening and as my mates and teachers sang my choice - I relished the experience. Today I live in Australia and own a publishing company, travel business and web building company. Visit his Website
