Brooks, Peter (1971)
Though I was at Cordwalles as a boy for only one glorious year, 1971, I have extremely fond memories of my time there as it was my home from '58-'79! After twenty years living in England, mainly in Bristol, I returned with my wife, Verity, to live in Cape Town in 1999 and have been happily living in Observatory since then. I had a book published this year (2006), 'Metrics in IT Service Management', a book that has been certified as 'Best Practice' by the itSMF world wide - I launched the book in the Netherlands this Spring and at the Sydney conference of the itSMF last month where it was extremely well received.
My Dad, Ronald is, of course, fit and well living in Hastings Street in Cape Town and delighted to hear from Old Boys.

I was at Cordwalles from 1970 to 1972 and my nickname was Goose the Other Strachan known as Duck, my feathered friend. I am married to Sally and we have 3 children Michael, now at Michaelhouse, Megan and Katie. Hewat, Anthony (1970-1972)
I was at Cordwalles between 1970 and 1972, I was Ant in the same zoo and era as Duck, Goose and Spider. I work in Sandhurst at a private equity and advisory firm called Metier. I have been in private equity for 13 years and before that management consulting for 6 years and accounting for 6 years before that. I had the privilege of having Simon Weaver who was with me at Cordwalles teach my boys Paul (now 13) and Sam (now 12) at Pridwin, only to have the Cordwalles chairman and my brother-in-law poach him from us in an underhand raid. Simon succeeded David Anderson as headmaster at Pridwin, David having taught me cricket, maths and rugby (I peaked as flyhalf for the 7ths at Michaelhouse) at Cordwalles. In addition to my two sons my family comprises Helena ex Collegiate and NatalU and Amy (8) - we are all firm Sharks/Dolphins fans and frequent visitors to Natal. We are going on a cricket tour to England in June where I hope to see Peter Dix who taught me maths and chess at Cordwalles in 1970 and is now Headmaster at Port Regis one of the great prep schools in the south of England who we are playing. I am a proud owner of bespoke golf clubs supplied by Andrew Baker. I fondly remember having Ronald Brooks refer to us by our Latin names – who remembers Roth-bene, Sartor, Bain-pons, Ruber-homo, Hick-homo? I am sure each generation had their equivalents. I wonder if any of Booty’s train room aficionados are working on the Gautrain project. Marbles, tops, gunda-gunda’s, yoyos – we could nostalge on for hours…

Guy, Donald(1970-1972)
Donald supplied Cordwalles with the photos that appear at the top of the page. He comments:
"Some of the photos were taken by me, on expeditions with Mr Mac Watts, who ran the photographic club (Mr Watts' Willys Jeep is pictured above) and others by Mr Brooks at "Tathams", a place where we had a school outing. I remember most of the boys names but have rarely seen any of them since those days. Nowadays I am a Maritzburger, and happy for it, Campbell our son attends Cordwalles, loves it and we play tennis on the grounds. Lots of sport nowadays and dayboys which is different to the 70's.
Married to Cleone, a Human Resource developer, I have made documentary films for 50/50 a local environmental TV programme and now promotional and educational products for the past 15 years or so, while dabbling and other artistic pursuits when time permits.

I was at Cordwalles from 1976-1978, was in Jacksons, and then went on to Michaelhouse where I was in West. I however left after a year. I matriculated from La Salle College in JHB in 1982, went to Wits until 1987, then started a BVSc at Onderstepoort in 1988, qualifying in 1993.
I am married with no kids and working in the UK where I have been for the last 5 years.

Guy, Robbie(1977-1979)
Cordwalles: the bugroom, acting in plays, ear-wiggling competitions at Worlds View, chess and debating, generations of history scratched onto the 'bogs' doors, keeping 'cats', the trifle!, eating 'just a little' cabbage, 'Monk' the institution and of course marmalade on sausages.
I was living in Adelaide, Australia working in the precision irrigation game which gets me around - including SA often. Very happily married to Sarah and would be pleased to host/meet up with any old class mates.

Tyndale-Briscoe, Andrew (1974-1978)
I was at Cordwalles from 1974 to 1978, in Butchers.
I was married to Jean (nee Williams) in 1994, and have a son Christopher (9) and daughter Katie (6). I loved Cordwalles and have many happy memories of the school, and would definitely send my son there if we lived closer.
I am currently MD of Vunani Corporate Finance, which basically advises listed companies on all aspects of corporate finance including listings on the JSE.
I recently invented advertising that goes down a golf flagstick, in which Sean Flanagan (72-78) is my partner and operating very successfully in US and Europe see

I spent my first year of working life at ABSA. I moved across to Andersen Consulting, where I spent most of my time building a portfolio management system for Syfrets. I moved across to Syfrets where I headed up the IT division for the asset management division. I moved to the private bank where I was responsible for technology. In 1996 I joined SMACSOFT to head up the sales and marketing. A year later I was made director in charge of sales, marketing and business development. We have grown SMACSOFDT from a start-up to the leading software development company within SA. In 1999 we succesfully listed the company. In January 2001 we sold the company to a London listed company called AFA Systems. I am currently involved in internationalizing our business and our systems, where I am responsible for the Middle East, Africa and Greece.
I married Daphne Muller in 1991 in the Michaelhouse Chapel. We have two wonderful children, Brittany and Jordan.
I loved Cordwalles. It was a busy life as a school boy. I remember having both fun in the classroom and on the sports fields. I remember each of my teachers - I made great friends who I continue to be in contact with.

I was at Corwalles from 1976 to 1979, wherafter I went to Michaelhouse. After an extended university career I qualified with a BSc Mechanical Engineering at Natal University in 1992. In 1993 I started working at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station outside Cape Town and am currently a part owner of a printing business with occasional contracts of a few months at a time back at Koeberg. Our family is now in it’s 3rd generation of Cordwalles, with my father, Viv Biggs having been the first and my sister’s son, Steven Charles Kriel, being the latest.

My name is John Strauss, and I attended Cordwalles in the late 70’s. I now live in Melbourne Australia.I have a lovely wife and two “humongously georgeous” children.
I was reading your newsletter and I can see where I got my values from, dissing is very common here, unfortunately. I think the main problems are that of fear and greed, where money accumulation and spending is people’s main aim, instead of improving oneself.
In Melbourne we are having a lot of Africans migrants. My thoughts always go back to Cordwalles and going to other children’s houses and playing soccer with the other kids on the farms.
And De’ann Brooks I am sorry to hear that she is leaving, I still remember getting my finger stuck in the car door on that night we went to the Christmas carols. And Bosan that beautiful dog, and I remember the school plays, especially having to perform before the other schools, the movie nights, the debates and many other wonderful memories … not least including a trip to watch Michael House and Hilton play rugby. I still have not seen a better sporting event. Please make sure Mrs. Brooks gets my thanks.
I have so many wonderful memories of my school Cordwalles, I would one day love to come and visit, and sit once more in the great dining hall and have some of that lovely trifle. And eat some cherries.
I hope to encourage the teachers and Mrs Bastard, whose son’s cricket gear I had left at the bottom oval by mistake? And had left to warp. Sorry.
