Cordwalles Announces New Headmaster for 2016
Dear Parents and Friends of Cordwalles
Having received many excellent applications from around the world and having gone through a thorough selection process, I am proud to announce the appointment of Mr Lance Veenstra as the new Headmaster of Cordwalles Preparatory School commencing in January 2016. Lance will take over the headship from Mr Simon Weaver who, after 12 years as Headmaster of Cordwalles, has been appointed as Headmaster of Western Province Preparatory School in Cape Town. He will be only the 7th Headmaster of the school in its 103 year of rich history and tradition.
Lance, with over 24 years in the field of boys-only education, he has a proven track record in leadership having been Deputy Head Boy at Maritzburg College. Lance then went on to teach at Maritzburg College rising though the ranks culminating in serving on the school Executive Management Committee. Lance began his teaching career as a high school history teacher teaching to Matric level and sitting on Matric history marking committees. At different stages of his career Lance has been a House Master, Subject Head and Head of Department.
Involved in various provincial sporting bodies as an administrator, selector and a coach, Lance was one of the first cricket coaches under Dr Ali Bacher to go into Soweto and coach cricket in 1986. He coached the 1st XV rugby side at Maritzburg College and is the current 1st XV rugby coach at Cordwalles.
Since 2009, Lance has been Deputy Headmaster of Cordwalles and is a great believer in helping every child strive for personal excellence in a place where generosity of spirit is evident in the way in which people deal with one another. The emphasis is on morals and values especially in today’s materialistic society and where curiosity, creativity and critical thinking is fostered. His wish is that boys leave Cordwalles with a well rounded education, confident and with self belief. He is looking forward to the challenges ahead and to taking Cordwalles forward in the future.
Married to Belinda, a Grade 1 teacher at Cordwalles, they have a daughter Jemma in Grade 11 at The Wykeham Collegiate and a son Matt in Grade 7 at Cordwalles.
