Mandy Wheeler was born in Pietermaritzburg and educated at Scottsville School and Girl’s High School where she was one of Pietermaritzburg’s Top Girls Swimmers. Mandy represented Natal Schools from 1983 to 1988 and SA Nationals from 1985 to 1989 and Pre maters in 1994/1995 in which she held Natal/SA Records. In 1989 to 2003 Mandy joined Tony Shuttleworth and headed up Penguins Swimming Club. In 2003 the family moved to Zambia and Mandy took over Musikili Swimming Club which falls under the auspices of the Zambia Amateur Swimming Union. Her highlights whilst coaching was 22 swimmers made the Zambian A (8) and B (14) swimming teams of which they brought home 21 Gold, 13 Silver and 14 Bronze Medals in an International Gala.
On returning back to South Africa Mandy re-joined Penguins Swimming Club at Cordwalles Swimming Pool and over the years has coached numerous Midlands and KZN swimmers. Mandy has over 20 years’ experience as a Professional Swimming Coach/Swim Teacher.
Mandy is married and has 2 children – Niall (19) and Tara (16). Niall was a pupil at Cordwalles School before winning a Sports Scholarship to Hilton where he achieved well in swimming and played 1st Team Waterpolo and u16 SA Waterpolo. Tara is at TWC. She too won a Sports scholarship and doing well in swimming and Waterpolo.
